The fifth-generation Toyota Prius underwent a significant transformation, sporting a more aggressive design compared to its predecessors. Toyota's designers seized the opportunity to give this hybrid vehicle the Gazoo Racing treatment, resulting in a concept model that retains its original drivetrain.

The Gazoo Racing (GR) emblem is reserved for the swiftest and most powerful Toyota models. Models like the Supra, GR86, GR Corolla, and GR Yaris fall under this sub-brand. Five years ago, the notion of the Prius joining the ranks of GR-branded vehicles would have been unthinkable. It demonstrates the remarkable progress the hybrid segment's iconic figure has made in terms of design.

The exterior modifications are the most noticeable. Toyota incorporated a carbon fiber hood for weight reduction, redesigned headlights, and a complete body kit. This kit includes canards on the front bumper, side skirts, a substantial rear wing (yes, on a Prius!), and a rear diffuser. Additionally, the suspension system has been widened, allowing the 18-inch wheels to be positioned further out. These updates improve the Prius' aerodynamics and enhance traction.

Interior photos have not been released, and Toyota provided limited information regarding the concept's interior. Technical specifications were also omitted, suggesting that it likely shares similarities with the standard Prius beneath the surface. So, if you were hoping for an all-wheel-drive Prius equipped with the GR Corolla's powerful three-cylinder engine producing 300 horsepower, you may be disappointed.

As for the Prius' power, the stock model relies on a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain, consisting of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Together, these power sources generate 194 horsepower, a significant improvement over the previous generation's 121-horsepower rating. However, it falls short of achieving a power-to-weight ratio comparable to that of a hot hatch. Opting for the all-wheel-drive version adds a second motor and increases horsepower to 196. Alternatively, the plug-in hybrid Prius Prime offers a 220-horsepower drivetrain with a larger electric motor.

Toyota developed this concept, officially named Prius 24h Le Mans Centennial GR Edition, to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. While there is no announcement regarding production plans for this model, its future remains uncertain.
