GR Corolla with significant engine damage

The Toyota GR Corolla boasts a powerful 1.6-liter three-cylinder, 300-hp turbocharged engine, which makes it a spectacular car. However, a recent incident has left one of these vehicles in ruins. The destroyed car has been making rounds on GR Corolla forums, and the damage is hard to miss. The good news is that the car is still under warranty, and a replacement engine is on the way.

According to the videos posted by Simez Garage on YouTube, a Toyota shop employee, the engine of this GR Corolla needs to be replaced. It is unclear what led to the damage, but it appears to be a missed shift, which caused the connecting rod to break through the engine block. The cylinder head was also damaged, and there was carnage in the oil pan. Even the all-wheel-drive transfer case had a hole in it. Toyota is investigating the matter, and the car owner is lucky not to be liable for the $32,000 in replacement parts.

It is important to note that missing a shift can cause significant engine damage. For example, if you accidentally shift down to 2nd gear instead of 4th gear while driving, the engine can exceed its redline of 7,000 rpm, resulting in severe engine damage. This scenario seems to be the case with the destroyed GR Corolla.

There are more videos on the Simez Garage YouTube page detailing the damage, which may interest those who want to learn more. In any case, it is a relief to know that the engine will be replaced.
